Hi to the EPS list, I'm a composer of interactive, algorithmic music based in Seattle. I'm developing a project with a juggler friend (James Jay) under commission from 911 media arts center. It is a 'juggling jukebox' in which a live juggler is wired up with motion sensors and contact sensors to drive algorithmic music off of his act. We are doing this as an installation at a high-tech art show "beyond fast forward" to show at the end of October. I am doing my sound design using an Ensoniq EPS16+ turbo keyboard. However, we are trying to come up with a compact, rack mount setup for the show. Therefore, I am seeking a gracious individual who would be willing to trade my keyboard for his/her rack mount EPS16+ turbo or ASR10 for about 4 weeks from the end of September to the end of October. Please email me if you would like to help out a great show in October! Well, frankly you are better off using an external sequencer anyway. Although the sequencer in the ASR and most Ensoniq keyboards is excellent, it does become a chore when you get down to editing individual notes. Cakewalk is an excellent program. It all depends on how much you have to spend. With regard to the DA-88, check out the Alesis ADAT and Fostex RD-8. I've been using my ADAT for a couple of years now and it's definitely a great format. The ADAT itself doesn't support SMPTE but you can get a box from Steinberg/Jones that will allow it to understand SMPTE, MTC and MMC. The Fostex RD-8 does have built-in SMPTE capablities. I gather Ensoniq charges the dealer for the ROM (they told be $39.95). It took me longer to talk my local shop into just selling me the ROM than to install it. Seriously... Two phone calls and a meeting, (with a couple hundred dollars of work under my arm), and they finally agreed to sell me just the ROMs. It took under an hour, with most of that time spent getting to the Keyboard ROM on the EPS motherboard. It's under the keyboard and you've got about 15 screws to pull out plus a bit of coaxing. And... While you've got the keyboard pulled... (and actually you don't have to do the following with the keyboard out, but since it's isolated from the EPS...) Do yourself a favor and do the "Keyboard Engineering Mod" that takes care of the sporadic 144 reboot errors. (These aren't the ones from MIDI Overflows, these are the ones that look like heat problems and will show up with no data flowing to or from the EPS). The root of the problem here is that there're a pair of circuit boards under the keyboard of the EPS. These boards are connected by a flexible ribbon cable which is attached to the boards via Molex connectors. What's happening is that either the Molex pins are getting corroded, or the ribbon is getting loose in the crimp connectors, or the Molex pins are loose in the boards... When the board halves loose track of each other, the EPS freaks and "144's" it's way out of a jam. NOTE!!! This is for the Classic only, and is not recommended if you aren't comfy with a soldering iron!!! The instructions may seem terse, but once you start into this, things become real clear. 1) start by pulling out a 1/2 octave of keys on either side of middle C. (This is done by first removing the wooden keeper/trim piece at the rim of the case. Do that by pulling 8 screws across the very front of the underside of the case. The screws more towards the middle are for the physical keyboard. Once that trim is out, pull the springs off of the back of the keys, then work the plastic key tops out from the keyboard. Know that if the keyboard is physically removed from the case, because you're doing the ROM upgrade, then this is a breeze to do.) 2) Look down from the top of the keyboard. You should see two circuit boards connected with a ribbon cable with crimp on molex connectors on the end of the ribbon. This is the problem spot that's causing the errors. 3) The main objective here is to circumvent this jumper ribbon with a soldered cable. You can do this a couple of different ways... a) use a length of ribbon cable b) use individual lengths of wire Either is okay, but obviously the ribbon is cleaner. 4) Leave the present cable connected, there's no real reason to pull it. Cut either a length of ribbon cable or individual wires to a length of about 4". Don't make 'em too long, as you'll have problems stopping them from snaging on the keyboard mechanism. 5) Strip and tin the ends of the ribbon/wires 6) One by one, solder the strands of the ribbon or the wires to where the present ribbon connects at the circuit board. Don't solder straight to the molex pins, solder to the pads on the boards. 7) Run the wires close and tight to the board and across to the other side. 8) Solder the wires in a straight-through fashion to the relative pads on the other side. One-to-one, top-to-bottom, don't cross 'em up. 9) Button everything back up, put the keys back on, put the springs back on, put the keyboard back in, don't forget the trim piece, and that's about it... Make sure that you don't snag your new wiring on the key mechanism. I had 144's on my EPS many times a day. every day from the day I bought it, (4 years ago), I did this mod about a year ago and have yet to see a 144 since. If you haven't done any Windows programming, I'd suggest getting a copy of Visual Basic instead of the C compiler. VB takes care of a heck of a lot of nasty Windows stuff. Once you use VB for a while, then you can start in on the C stuff with a lot better foundation of how Windows works. Nice thing is that VB can use any of the DLLs that would normally be written with C or C++, so you can still access the low level stuff with VB. There are three main players in the Windows C compiler arena. I have both the Borland and the Microsoft compilers. They're each nice, but I find that I use the MS compiler more. One thing about the MS C compiler is that you can call stuff that you've created in VB. (A VBX control...) So, you can start with VB and then switch slowly over to VC++. To tell the truth, I haven't upgraded to the very latest Borland compiler, so I don't know if it can do the same thing as VC++ or not... (The third main Windows compiler is the Symantec one. Based upon reviews I've read, I don't think it has the same level of capability as the Borland or MS compilers.) You don't mention what kind of MIDI programming you want to do... Do you want to write a sequencer? An editor? Sample dump stuff? And what kind of MIDI interface do you have? If you have a Music Quest interface, you can get one of their programming kits. They also have an excellent programming kit for Windows. It retails for $99, which may be a lot, but it sure will save you a lot of programming time. For code examples, it's best to just comb the Net. (Most, if not all, of the MIDI programming books are out of publication. One of the best Net places to look is the FTP site at FTP.CS.RUU.NL. There is a directory full of documents, including a listing of other FTP sites. SCSI Basics 101: What happens is that because each SCSI master (the ASR and the IIfx) has completely different disk format structures, you can't share the removable device between the two at the same time. As soon as either the ASR or the IIfx find the Syquest drive, it assumes that it is there for the duration. If the Mac sees it first, the ASR can never access a cartridge until the Syquest drive gets restarted; conversely, once the ASR finds the Syquest, the Mac can't use it. About all I can suggest is you remove any auto-mounting software (HDT Extension, SCSI Probe, etc) from your Extensions folder or Control Panels folder, and use SCSI Probe to mount your Syquest cartridges manually (I keep a copy in my Apple Menu Items folder where I can get at it easily). This way, you don't have to restart your Mac all the time, you just have to power-cycle the Syquest mechanism when you need to change formats. I use this approach with my K2000 (sans sampling option - I *hate* samplers!) and my mag-optical drive, and it seems to work quite well. Another problem (maybe): I don't have the luxury of having my own pc, so I use the 'puters in a lab at SMSU. No hard drives, everything HAS to be done off of a floppy disk. Am I sunk? If you're talking about ROM 2.4 (2.41) for the original EPS, according to my sources, the main changes was to adjust for the Syquest hard drives being more compatible SCSI-wise. I didn't buy the SCSI interface for the TS-12 when I found out it was read-only. I did think about it for a while though and can pass on some information that I gathered... I called Ensoniq to ask about using the internal CD-ROM of the Mac. They said that (for the TS-12 SCSI interface) that the SCSI address was set at 3 and could not be changed (I think I'm remembering the numbers correctly). 3 is also the factory-set address of the internal CD-ROM. Hence they said it couldn't be used. However, when I called the Apple Tech guys here on campus, they said it would be no problem to change the SCSI address of the internal drive. However, there is another problem that I never quite resolved. Just because the CD-ROM drive is on the SCSI chain, it doesn't necessarily qualify as an 'independent' drive. It is always kept track of by the Mac operating system. If you put in a disk that is not Macintosh-compatible, I think the OS will eject it and not allow you to do anything with it. I am also unfamiliar with the format on most CD-ROM sample disks. Perhaps Terje can answer the questions as to whether or not EPSm can help get around compatibity and SCSI problems. Well, actually, it still doesn't, but now when I'm forced to spend most of my free time at work, some compensation (=$) is due, too. Anyways, to the point... I have an EPS16 rack without the SCSI interface and I'm planning to purchase the ASR-10 rack one day. Tha ASR comes with a SCSI interface installed. Even if I do buy the ASR I think I will stick with the EPS too (since one of uncool things about the Ensoniq samplers has been and still is the number of simultaneous instruments). Frankly, I don't understand the 8 instrument limit in ASRs, since those units don't have the memory limitation that the earlier models had. Oh well... but with an EPS16 and an ASR one could have 16 instruments on 16 channels. So, the question: Do you know if it is possible for an EPS16 and an ASR-10 to share the same SCSI devices? Like if both samplers were equipped with a SCSI interface and there was a CD-ROM drive with a sample CD-ROM inside, could one load sounds from it to both samplers without having to disconnect power/cables/ whatever from any of the equipment involved? How about SCSI hard disks then? The same as with CD-ROMs? And what about adding a PC (IBM style) in the soup? Thanks, Timo ==== BTW, there was an interview of kids in a monthly supplement of Finland's largest newspaper (Helsingin Sanomat). They asked the children to describe all kinds of "adult" words and among those was guru. The description went something like this (freely trans- lated): "Someone that sits on a roof. First: The gkh2eps eps2gkh and epsdir programs were uploaded so that I could get feedback on errors. They were sort of a prelude to E-DiskTools for Windows. All these programs are still in beta, and probably will continue to be, as there allready exists good dos-programs for transferring between eps-floppies and .gkh images; ex: epsdisk by Michael Chen. E-DiskTools 4 W. will constantly evolve, new versions are just around the corner. Second: Thankyou for reporting the error! Not many have. The reason you get this cryptic error-message is: I hadn't implemented all the .gkh-errormessages at the time gkh2eps was released. The program is a bit demanding on the gkh-files. Probably it reacts on a .gkh-file with author or subjectfieldsize of 0 and undefined tag-data-format. This should be fixed in edtw. Please try edtw, /pub/eps/utils/edtw_02.gz, and see if you get the same error. Keep these three things in mind while I discuss your previous posting... Tangerine To The Hilt said: > After the recent discussions of this demo, we decided to download it. I'm glad that you recognized that RuReady2 is a DEMO! I usually don't put much weight in demos since their purpose is usually limited to showing what a device is sonically capable of producing. Simply put, they are SALES PROMOTIONAL DEVICES. If one thinks that the artistic value of the demo is appreciable - fine, you might consider yourself more persuaded toward obtaining that device. If you think that the artistic value of a demo is nil, pick another demo, device or discussion group. There are certainly enough to choose from. Tangerine To The Hilt continues: > Technically, it shows a good ability to arrange, sample, and program, however, musically, it is an outdated, bland, corny, cliched, and, all in all, a "done a million times before" type of song. I'll agree with Justin here. I think he's just described an ordinary "demo" very succinctly! I don't find it offensive in the least. Justin gives constructive criticism (in what appears to be a humble opinion) about an artifact. Given my standpoint on demos (stated above), I'm not certain as to why he wasted the time and effort. Tangerine To The Hilt hits the igniter on the flame thrower: > Forums for musicians (like this list) do themselves no favours when they display far more willingness to salute technology and technique than music itself. Justin, you've subscribed to an EPS/ASR forum... Other people have also subscribed so that they may share ideas - creative and technical - with folks who have a common interest. What did you expect here, Robert Henri-esque discussions about "The Art Spirit"? We also share the commonality that we think Ensoniq gear has something to offer that will allow us to tap into IDEAS and turn them into SONIC REALITY. Some of us even own gear made by other manufacturers... :) I think that you will find almost as much criticism for the technology here as you will kudos (I'm refering to the back-issues of the digest as well as the current). Terje or I might tell you that this probably has a lot to do with the frustration that many of us occasionally feel about a temporary (or extended) inabilty to bridge the incorporeal. That is - to take the proverbial can opener to our craniums and get the good music out so that we can share it with others (How's that for Henri-esque phrasiology? :)). These are TECHNICAL TOOLS we are dealing with here - for salute or disdain. Terje, sorry if I put words in your mouth that don't fit... p.s., Have you read those books yet? :) Tangerine To The Hilt checks the feed and PULLS THE TRIGGER...: > We have been on this list for months and have never come across anyone who seems as interested in originality as they are in SCSI interfaces, file formats, and memory expanders. Personally, if I wanted input on originality, I wouldn't look for it here. If, OTOH, I was having a technical problem with any Ensoniq gear, this is one of the first places I would come. I am particularly thankful for the participation of everyone who has contributed to the digests. They are a resource worth more than gold IMHO. If somebody here stated that they liked a demo - fine. They didn't deserve your pretentious flame! Please see items "a" and "b" above. This digest has remained suprisingly and refreshingly "flame-retardant". DON'T RUIN IT!! Or if you want - flame away! Just don't expect any of us to respond to any whimpering pleas for technical help with any of your gear (or any other posts for that matter). I don't think Pelle Piano participates on this forum, so I guess it's safe to say that none of us have benefitted from your lack of restraint. (Please review item "c" above.) Even if Mr Piano did, he'd probably point out to you that the Copyright date on RuReady2 is way back in 1992. I think even I might have thought this was kinda neat back in '92 ...for a "demo". To redeem yourself, you might upload what you think is your best "demo" material just to see if we "like" it. I can't tell where you've been much more than a lurker til now. Have you the nerve? As the saying goes - "Put up or shut up." I should warn you that I am heavily predisposed against "Country and Western" music. If I don't have my EPS demos confused, Pelle Piano had nothing to do with RuReady2. It was sequenced/sampled by Ray Chew, an American. Pelle Piano's sequences are quite remarkable - his trademark is his extremely authentic use of synth & sampled guitars in sequences. As another note, all of the samples in the demo are from the Korg Mono/Poly -- including all of the drums. The demo doesn't play on the EPS unless you convert the sequence from ASR-10 format to EPS format. I guess there's software that lets you do this, but I don't have it (so I didn't.) I'm a bit unclear on one thing though, it's been said that the TS-10 is read only when it comes to SCSI and a few things like that. I rang up my music dealer and he couldn't really clarify it. So this is my question : If I get an EPS/ASR-10 sample, throw the disk into my TS-10, I should be able to hear it, use it in a sequence etc right? OK. Now suppose I say to myself, I'm going to use that sample a lot so I want to save it to my SCSI drive attached to the TS-10. So I save it, but what is written? If it's just parameters, then surely the TS-10 is going to have to see the original floppy disk every time I load the sample, correct? That seems pretty stupid to me, so where is the original sample data being stored and in what format? The only thing I can think of is that when we are saying read-only we are saying that it will write to SCSI in original ASR-10 format only so that all the tweaks to the sound done by the TS-10 are lost. Hope someone can follow what I'm going on about ... I'll post out the replies to all of this if anyone's interested once it all comes in. Right. The EPS or ASR Samples, that is. EPS or ASR sequences that might already be on the disk are not TS compatible, although you can use the samples in your own TS sequences. OK. Now suppose I say to |myself, I'm going to use that sample a lot so I want to save it to my |SCSI drive attached to the TS-10. This you cannot do. Any SCSI drive attached to the TS is read only. Hope someone can follow what I'm going on about ... I follow you, but read only really does mean read only- The TS lets you write out parameter edits of the samples once they've been loaded in (minus the actual sample data), but the sample edits have to be saved to a TS-format disk. So to load it back in, you need to first load the original sample (either through SCSI or off floppy), then load the parameter edits off a TS floppy, and now you're back in business. Albeit painfully. The TS SCSI interface cannot write anything to any drive. It can only read sample data off ready-to-go HD's or CD-ROMs. So copying samples around on the TS is out, as is tweaking the sample parameters and writing them back to the _original_ disk. Each track can be viewed individually in a piano scroll style window. Individual notes may be further edited: position, velocity, duration, etc. There are controller windows for each track also. Data in controller windows can be edited, drawn over, with tools or menu options. Notes in the Piano edit window can also be edited this way. Functions can be controlled by external midi devices. The only thing that I wish I could do with this program would be to loop a portion of the sequence when building drum parts. It would also be nice to group controller windows together when viewing data. Other than this - this is an excellent sequencer for the price. Send questions if interested. A friend opinion is "It aint all that". It's the Voder disk not the Vocoder disk. A vocoder is something different. The voder doesn't analyze the input as opposed to a vocoder that takes the input from one source and project its frequency spectrum onto another source. The Voder takes one (1) source (not two) and runs it through a very complex and, IMHO, superb filter. This filter can be programmed to have a number of settings of the cut off frequencies, gains etc. Any setting can be chosen in realtime with the bottom keys of the keyboard to simulate the phonemes of speech. Velocity can control the amount of time it takes for the Voder to shift between two settings, giving the effect of either slow or fast change from a vowel to another. > > My question(s): > > Can I run live vocals directly into the audio inputs on an ASR-10, play > chords with a neato-mosquito patch, and get a reasonable facsimile of the > real vocoder effect. Though, as I said above the voder takes one (1) input and runs it through a complex filter that can be controlled in real time, as opposed to a vocoder that takes 2 inputs. > > Is it worth the money?(Not really a problem. There are some effects that turn your voice into an entire set of 'chipmunks' and I even was able to imitate (well, with some imiagination) some of the vocoder voices used by Kraftwerk. For those missfortunate ones that haven't heard/seen the finnish "cult" band Leningrad Cowboys, it is a bunch of guys with some interesting ideas, fairly good playing skill and a terrific show. At least the ones in the Helsinki Senate Square (with an audience of about 20 000) and in Berlin the day the allied had their farewell parade (with the exclusion of the soviet army, who were left out) are ones to be remembered. And the audience seemed equally enthusiasted even in Berlin. In fact there has been two full-length movies and a couple of "rock videos". The second one is not very good, but the first one "Leningrad Cowboys Go America" is, to say the least, interesting... It is not a fictitious band, they just finished (;-) a tour in Japan, even. It is true that they don't perform very often, but when they do, it is an OCCASION with an audience in tens of thousands... The guys behind the band (Mato Valtonen & Sakke Jarvenpaa) have had many bands before LC, one of the first being The Sleepy Sleepers (or actually it's been The Sleepy Sleepers for a long time, but their appearance, music and show has changed many times). Humour has always played a major role in their performance and music. One of them (don't remember which) took part in the city council (or something equivalent in your whichever country/political system) election as a joke and got elected. Then they established a hockey team of rock musicians, actors and such that does special appearances to collect money for beneficial purposes. And they had one of those pay-phone things (you know, like the sex-phones) but with a twist... ;-) You could call the number and get verbally abused ;-) And the name was something like abuse-a-phone (freely translated). Then they've acted in many films (not as musicians), too. Multi-talents, eh ;-) ok, peace-keeping time t. The KT-76 gives musicians the sound and feel of a real piano, along with all the benefits of a MIDI workstation. It's the ultimate instrument for performance at home, in the studio, at church, or on stage. The KT introduces several NEW features: * Keyboard transpose - for instantly transposing what you play on the keyboard to another key during performance. * New ergonomic design - Pitch and Mod wheels have been placed at an angle for easy reach and the KT features a large display screen with big, bright characters. * PCMCIA card slot - you can use industry standard PCMCIA RAM cards for more sequencer memory and storage. These are the same cards used by many note book computers. * New format Musician's Manual and Quick-Start Guide Other features include: * 308 on board sounds, including a full GM soundset. 80 Ram Sounds - 100 ROM sounds including 20 dedicated drum and percussion sets, including 8 GM/GS drum kits 128 ROM General MIDI sounds * two complete pianos in waveform ROM * SoundFinder< * 34 ROM Pitch Tables * 13 high-quality effects include: Reverb, Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Stereo Delay, EQ EnvVCF, Distortion, Rotary Speaker, and combination effects. Custom VLSI 24-bit digital signal processor (ESP chip) with 48-bit accumulation * Room for up to 100 Performance Presets * Transpose Keyboard Function * Improved frequency response (18 kHz) * Optional detachable music stand (MS-1 - same as used for TS-12) Pricing: The US Suggested Retail Price for the KT-76 is $2,495.00 (US). - ---- End of specs ------------------------- I got these specs from usenet:rec.music.makers.synth back in late July. The KT-76 is now available, I've seen it and played it. It sounded great overall, but did not sound sonically worse/better than the TS-12. In comparison to the TS-12, the extra 32 voices of polyphony are nice. The lack of a disk drive can be compensated for by purchasing a SYSEX datadisk product (Yamah MDF-2, Alesis Datadisk, Peavey MIDI Streamer), but the inability to add new waveforms (samples) can only be compensated for by buying an additional synth/sampler with different sounds. The PCMCIA card slot makes data transfer to and from PC a possibility (instant access to sequences in memory). I wish I knew the maximum memory capacity the card slot can handle (the Alesis Quadrasynth/S4 can use 8MB PCMCIA RAM/ROM cards for SAMPLES, programs and mixes). I made a vow not to buy any synths with sonically closed architectures (can't add PCM waveforms/samples), so I'm still gonna buy a TS-10 this weekend. Besides, the sequencer is the best internal sequencer on the market. G. Wesley Hardy Jr. Software Engineer hardy@kmerl.research.panasonic.com Panasonic Technologies Inc. The same as with CD-ROMs? I dug out some old answers to the same question and it seems there is no problem in two samplers sharing the same SCSI device, even if they are of the same brand(= use the same SCSI address, like two ASRs that have the same fixed address of #3). At least that's how I understood it... (I can't understand how, though, but I'll take the author's word for it) Now on another matter... Will a SCSI-2 CD-ROM drive and a SCSI-2 hard drive work with EPS16+ and/or ASR-10? I think someone may have answered this in the past but I don't have the answer anymore. I think SCSI-2 is supposed to be downward compatible with SCSI. Do the devices work that way that if they talk to a SCSI-2 controller, they take advantage of whatever enhanced features there are and if the controller is vanilla SCSI they still work, but without the extras that SCSI-2 brings? If the sampler can use a SCSI-2 device (say, a double speed CD-ROM, for example), will it benefit from the speed? Or will it work at all? I wouldn't want to buy a separate CD-ROM for the computer and another one for the sampler(s), if possible. Please help, if you can so I don't waste my money. It seems I have to check that from TB cause I now have two quotes on the required speed (alledgedly coming from TB): one that says less than 16ms and another that says less or equal than 13ms. A useful piece of info was also that the Syquest 270 is having a high error ratio. I am speculating that Giebler's software will allow me to play Standard Midi Files using the TS-12's floppy drive (just order the keyboard). I plan to use the TS-12 as a one-man band for church performances, (playing along one track of the song), where songs are pre-sequenced using Cakewalk from my PC, writen to the HD as standard midi files, converted to TS format by Giebler's software and saved to diskette, and finally played from diskette by the TS-12. Can I do that using Giebler's software? Can I do the same with EPSread/EPSwrite? If I remembered correctly, there is some special things that the Giebler software can do that EPS{read/write} can't. I appreciate your help. Thanks, //TT ------------------------------ From: Michael Cowden Date: Thu, 15 Sep 1994 16:39:50 -0500 (EST) Subject: Index of unnamed samples? Does anyone know if there is a list of the unnamed samples in the directories /pub/eps/samples/aiff/Numbers and /pub/eps/samples/misc/lm @ oak.oakland.edu? Neither eps.idx nor sample.list (Whatever it is) gives any info. on these samples. If anyone has a clue, let me know. I am trying to find other interfaces that are a guaranteed working interface for a Syquest 44mb drive and my EPS without having to pay the ridiculous high price of Ensoniq's. Anyone with any ideas? Phone numbers of vendors would help a great deal. Also I'm in the market for used if you have one. I am new to this mail list, the internet and e-mail. So be nice. (g) Learning from the Hacker that there were all these samples available from my new Internet service (thanks for that letter Bob Sturtz, if you're out there), my natural reaction was "Let me at 'em." I downloaded the entire eps\util\msdos\ directory to make sure I would have that I needed to convert samples. My first problem is that I can't unzip anything. I am using unzip (from PKZ204G). When I used the unzip utility included with the download, I was forced to reboot (I think). Can anybody help me? I want to get a hard drive for the EPS but I am not sure what to buy. I've been hearing a lot about the Syquest removable drives. Is this the way to go for the EPS? I also use a Mac Classic to run sequencing software so it would be nice to be able to use the hard drive for that purpose also. Could I just buy one syquest drive and two cartridges to use for each purpose or will there be device ID problems. I've been looking at the 44MB and 105 MB syquest drives. Any advice would be sincerely appreciated. ------------------------------ End of eps-digest V1 #141 ************************* From: owner-eps-digest To: eps-digest@oak.oakland.edu Subject: eps-digest V1 #142 Reply-To: eps Errors-To: owner-eps-digest Precedence: bulk eps-digest Saturday, 17 September 1994 Volume 01 : Number 142 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Khew Sin Sun Date: Sat, 17 Sep 1994 17:11:28 +0800 (SST) Subject: ASR version 2.5 After receiving my version 2.5 os for the ASR10,i tried doing a long (80+ sec.) sample that i had trouble with when using the os 2.0. There's been dicussion on that topic previously - as long as you manually mount the drive, instead of automatically doing within the Mac, there's no problems. Is that right, people? >I've been looking at the 44MB and 105 MB syquest drives. Any advice would be sincerely appreciated. 105's are smaller and more handy. 44's are cheaper - you'll use more catridges, so if you think you'll want lot's of storage, the 105 might be the more cost effective solution.
